Recommended Puppy Collars

Martingale Collars

This collar contains an extra loop of material that allows the collar to tighten when the dog pulls on the leash, but not so much that it would cause choking. Martingale collars are common for greyhounds and whippets and can be used for training your puppy.

Puppy Collar Questions

How do I size my pup's collar?

Knowing how to select and fit a collar will ensure your puppy remains safe and happy. At Mimi Green we recommend measuring your pup’s neck where the collar will sit with a flexible measuring tape. You may want to add an inch or two depending on you and your pups preferences. If you do not see a length that works for your pup, we offer a custom length option!

Your puppy’s collar should fit snugly. Too loose and they will pull it off. Too tight and it can bruise their skin and annoy them. Remember to check your puppy’s collar periodically to ensure that it still fits.

I haven't received my puppy yet. What size should I get?

We have rules of thumb for all dog breeds, but we highly recommend consulting your dog’s breeder for expected puppy size.

When should I buy my puppy's collar? How long will it last?

This will depend on the pup’s age and breed. Most puppies tend to grow tremendously in the first few months of their lives. Waiting a few weeks or even a few months will get your puppy past its initial growth spurt and allow the for the early training days where the pup may try to scratch/chew off their collar.

  • Teacup and Toy breeds – Birth to 11 weeks
  • Small and Medium breeds – Birth to 16 weeks
  • Large and Giant breeds – Birth to 5 months

Your brand new pup will ❤️being welcomed to the family with a personalized collar. Since your pup is experiencing high growth during this period, we recommend choosing a collar slightly longer than measured neck length so that the collar will last more than a few weeks/months.

  • Teacup and Toy breeds – 6 to 7 months
  • Small and Medium breeds – 9 to 10 months
  • Large and Giant breeds – 12 to 18 months

Your beloved puppy will get plenty of life from a collar purchased during this period. We recommend choosing a collar that will fit snuggly now and allow a few inches of growth. If you do not see a length that works for your pup, we offer a custom length option!
